"Patience is a virtue" - or so my Grandma tells me. I'm not always good at being patient, at waiting. And the past weeks (since the beginning of lockdown, really) have felt like a time of waiting, a time to be patient.
Although we continue to wait for the time when we can gather for worship in church again, from Monday, churches are permitted to open again for private prayer. St John's will be open from 12:00-2:00pm Monday-Friday. Of course, it is fine to continue to pray at home (especially if you are shielding) but the Lady Chapel will be available for private prayer during the appointed times above. If you are able to volunteer during those times, please fill in the Google Doc here.
The church building is an important place for a lot of people and it may give you a 'lift' to see it gradually reopening. However, this is a small step and we still wait for many other freedoms and reconnections to come (with varying degrees of patience, I'm sure!). During this time, it's really important to look after ourselves and the Festival website has links to some excellent resources on well-being and looking after your mental health. (There are, of course, many other wonderful things on the Festival website, so please do spend some time exploring.)
With best wishes
